Screenings for schools and pupils at local cinemas
Expectations, breaks from everyday life, escapism, comfort, understanding, empathy, and new insights are just a few words that can be associated with a film experience. Experiencing it as a group can have an incredible impact. Discussing difficult topics from the film’s perspective often makes conversations easier.
When everyone is prepared on how to engage in such an in-depth project, it opens up possibilities for fantastic conversations. Such in-depth work can be achieved through School Cinema. Below you will find tips and advice on School Cinema, links to where and how you can rent films and host a screening.
Things to Consider Before School Cinema
How will the film be used? Will it be connected to the regular curriculum? Is the selection driven by theme or subject area? Who will choose the film? How will students be involved? Perhaps the film will engage more if students participate in the selection? Can the local cinema be a resource in the selection process? How will you delve deeper into the film afterwards? Should a film guide be used?
If so, you can find guidance in swedish in “Filmregionernas Skolbiohandledning” on how to prepare your class for the screening and follow up on the film experience afterward. Feel free to contact us for more information, guidance, or a visit to discuss how your municipality or school can start or deepen the work around School Cinema.

Support from the Swedish Film Institute
The Swedish Film Institute provides support to municipalities for film activities in preschools, schools, cultural schools, and recreational activities with the aim of offering children and youth the opportunity for high-quality film experiences and deeper knowledge of moving images.
The support can be used as a complement to Skapande Skola, for example, for staff training. The Film Institute also publishes film guides that can serve as inspiration for preparation and discussions with students after the film screening.
