Film festivals and events

Film festivals are cultural events that widen our access to film from different countries and cultural spheres - a way of meeting the whole world from home. In addition, the festivals offer encounters with filmmakers and discussions around production and content. Southern Sweden has an abundance of film festivals and events that are of local, regional and international importance. Film i Skåne collaborates in different ways with most of these. 

Major festivals and events

Nordisk Panorama Film Festival is a festival and arena for Nordic short and documentary films, that takes place in Malmö. Apart from screenings, seminars and presentations of filmmakers, the festival offers financing forums and a marketplace.

M:Brane Forum is an annual, international co-production forum that takes place in Malmö and showcases children’s media content. 20-30 projects in development are pitched in front of 50+ international decision makers and experts + 150 producers and distributors.

 Malmö Arab Film Festival is the largest Arabic-focused film festival outside of the Arabic world. The festival screens features, short and documentary films, along with seminars and industry forums.

BUFF Malmö Film Festival screens films from all over the world, targeted at children and young people. It also provides a meeting arena for the film industry, municipalities, schools and others that work with providing youth-oriented film and film education.

Lund Fantastic Film Festival is a genre bound international film festival that offers screenings, seminars and industry events.

Pixel Skånes Filmfestival is Film i Skånes’ own festival, focusing on up-and-coming filmmakers. Pixel’s programme is divided into different competing sections. Pixel also determines the official selection to the national November festival – a festival featuring young filmmakers.

Film i Skåne is also a co host for a number of other film festivals and screening events throughout Skåne, such as Bionalen (with a film historical profile), Doc Lounge (international documentary screenings), IFEMA – International Female Film Festival, Lilla Filmfestivalen i Båstad (Båstad’s film festival), Lund Arch Film Festival (film and architecture) and Swedish Human Rights Film Festival.
