Film i Skåne is pleased to announce that we are taking over the baton from Vision Denmark and will become hosts of the European Writers Club (EWC) starting from the upcoming third pilot session. EWC is a talent development accelerator for European screenwriters supported by the European Commission and co-funded by the EU alongside several leading TV networks and film organizations.

European Writers Club (EWC) was launched in 2022 by Thomas Gammeltoft, former CEO of the Copenhagen Film Fund, and is funded by the EU under the “Writing European” initiative in collaboration with many of Europe’s leading TV networks, including SVT, ZDF, TV2, FranceTV, and NRK, as well as film organizations like the Danish Film Institute (Denmark), AGADIC, and SGAE (Spain).

EWC supports screenwriters across Europe in developing innovative and successful TV series for a broad European audience. The program fosters collaboration between screenwriters, producers, and TV networks to enhance creativity and originality in stories that cross national borders.

Film i Skåne’s role as host of the European Writers Club strengthens the collaboration between the Skåne and Copenhagen regions and will benefit the creative development of screenwriters throughout Europe. The European Writers Club has already implemented two highly successful pilot programs:

Boosting Ideas, Boosting Concepts, and Boosting Broadcasters: This pilot program revamped and streamlined the development process for TV series by bringing together screenwriters and TV networks early in the project development phase. By creating a safe environment for testing and refining ideas, both screenwriters and TV networks gained deeper insights into each other’s expertise, resulting in stronger projects.

Boosting Impact: The second pilot program, still ongoing, focuses on working with stories based on real events. To create TV series with significant impact, screenwriters collaborate with journalists and historians throughout the scriptwriting process.

A third exciting pilot program will be presented at the MIA Market in Rome in October 2024.

“Becoming beneficiaries and hosts of European Writers Club is a significant step for Film i Skåne and the entire Øresund region. Through our collaboration, we contribute to creating a stronger, more creative Europe, with Skåne and Copenhagen as important players in this development.”
— Ralf Ivarsson, CEO of Film i Skåne

“As the instigator and head of EWC, I am very proud of our newly established collaboration with Film i Skåne as the main beneficiary of our network and accelerator. We are entering our third pilot phase, which will be launched shortly, and we are looking forward to an exciting future after this phase. For this purpose, we need a strong regional fund and commission to support us, and Film i Skåne, along with Region Skåne, has stepped in. This collaboration across the bridge, between Sweden and Denmark, will only strengthen our Øresund region, with the potential of making it a strong hub for story creation and production in Europe.”
— Thomas Gammeltoft, CEO & Head of European Writers Club
