Co-production of short films

We invest in the co-production of short films and short series, defined as short fiction (live-action, animation, or hybrid) with a total length under 60 minutes. We also have the ability to invest in the development of animated short films, but not in the development of other types of short films.

Applications for short documentaries should be submitted under Co-production of Documentary Films.

Applications for the co-production of fiction films and series with a total length over 60 minutes should be submitted under Co-production of Feature Films and TV Series.

Applications for co-production are handled on an ongoing basis. The processing time is estimated to be approximately 6 weeks. Processing times will be longer during July and August due to vacations.

Who Can Apply?

To apply, there must be a producer with a production company (including sole proprietorship) behind the project. The film’s producer and director can be the same person. If you are a filmmaker at the beginning of your career and without a production company, you can instead apply for Stipendiet (The Grant).

To apply for the co-production of short films, the creators (with priority given to production companies and the director, producer, and screenwriter) must work and live in Skåne. However, filming can take place outside the region.

Who Cannot Apply?

Projects made in connection with or during a film or artistic education cannot apply to Film i Skåne.

Filmmakers with projects that have no connection to Skåne cannot apply. Production companies or creators who only wish to film in Skåne but are registered and reside outside the region cannot apply for co-production of short films.

Application Guidelines

For short films, you can apply for a co-production investment. Development investments can only be made for animation projects. Film i Skåne does not allocate grants but acts as a co-producer with requirements for rights and a share of returns.

Film i Skåne invests a maximum of 30 percent of the film’s budget (or up to SEK 150,000) and can only co-produce productions that also have other financing, such as contributions from the Swedish Film Institute, SVT, or other funds. You can apply to us before other financing is confirmed.

Film i Skåne aims to reflect society’s composition in terms of gender and cultural diversity in our investments.

Read our complete regulations for co-production of film and TV series.
