Virtual Production at Ystad Studios

Film i Skåne’s 600m² Virtual Production studio “Ernst Hugo” at Ystad Studios is equipped with a custom-built projection screen that is 25 meters wide and 4 meters high. The area in front of the semi-circular screen has a diameter of 16 meters, providing unparalleled flexibility in camera movements for Virtual Production in Sweden.

Virtual Production is ideal for projecting filmed backgrounds to easily, safely, and cost-effectively film car interiors or scenes set abroad or in difficult-to-access locations, all within the studio.

To create a convincing illusion of depth, camera tracking is used, which allows the background to adapt in real-time to the camera’s movements.

It is possible to use either filmed backgrounds or backgrounds rendered in real-time in a photorealistic game engine like Unreal Engine, with the help of external technology.

The Virtual Production infrastructure is scalable, and the projection screen can be used with one or multiple laser projectors to meet the production’s needs and budget.

Film i Skåne provides the soundstage and projection screen, as well as access to production offices and other studio facilities as per agreement.

Productions are responsible for collaborating with any Virtual Production and VFX providers, as well as booking projectors, tracking systems, computers, and media servers, for a solution tailored to the production’s needs.
